Congratulations to Mojtaba Vaezi, McGill IEEE branch chair in 2012-2013, for winning the Region 7 (Canada) Larry K. Wilson Student Activities Award in 2013. This award is to recognize the student member most responsible for an extraordinary accomplishment, in each Region of the IEEE.

As a key member of McGill IEEE student branch from 2011 to 2013, Mojtaba has shown a pattern of dedication and ongoing service to McGill Student branch and IEEE Montreal. The image of the branch has completely changed during the past year and the branch experienced an exceptional growth in its student members, events and activities, and funding. 2013 IEEE Canada Women in Engineering Prize

IEEE Canada annually awards the IEEE Canada Women in Engineering prize to recognize the excellence in young women engineer professionals. It is awarded to a person who has demonstrated substantial academic success and volunteer service to the IEEE.

This year, the prize was awarded to Malika Meghjani, Students' Activities and Women in Engineering representative for McGill IEEE Student Branch, 2012-2013.

Malika played a key role in re-establishing the McGill IEEE Student branch with two other former members in 2010. In past she was the Vice-Chair for the branch, 2011-2012. She has also been active in IEEE Montreal Section. Her roles with the IEEE Montreal Section as Students' Activities Representative and Chapter Chair (2011-2013) provided her the opportunity to organize Montreal Section wide events from field trips and programming competitions to women in engineering workshop and technical talks. These events have helped her develop leadership, organization, communication and coordination skills that will be valuable to her academic research.

A Phenomenal Increase in the Student Body

This academic year has been a great success for McGill IEEE. The total number of members has increased more than twice in less than 6 months. Further, the undergraduate body has become twice as it was in May 2012. We have also experienced growing interest in volunteerism, in this period. The below graph shows the trend.
